We are committed to finding permanent and happy homes for unwanted and homeless pets in our community. The organization was founded by Lila Hemenway in 1997. We rescue and re-home approximately 300 pets each year. Our organization does not have a shelter; volunteers provide foster care for animals while they await placement. Pets come to us as strays, owner turn-ins and from LA area shelters. We get dogs of all sizes and ages, purebreds and mixes alike. Although we primarily rescue dogs and puppies, we also have cats and kittens for adoption. Official Website
  • The Downtown Dog Rescue is a small group of volunteers who work with homless people in and around the skid row area of downtown LA that have dogs. We are the safety net for the dogs that belong to homless people. We adopt out over 200 dogs per year and assist in spaying and neutering close to 500 dogs in the downtown and South LA area. We host free spay and neuter events in some of the poorest areas of the CIty, including Watts and Compton, and organize transportation of dogs that need to be spayed and nuetered. We also do community outreach about the importance of spaying/neutering dogs. We are no-kill, and all money donated to our organzition goes to the care of the dogs, 100% All of our dogs that we offer for adoption are put through our socialization program, and are not adopted out until we truly know the dog's personality. We vaccinate, sterilized, and work all the dogs into a dog pack so that they can learn to play with other dogs, and feel confident when they are adopted into their forever homes. Official Website
